Elementary schools in Guilford County can earn money for their school and help protect the environment by collecting aluminum cans for the Kids, Cans & Ca$h Elementary School Recycling Challenge. The contest is held in recognition of America Recycles Day – November 15th.The three schools that collect the most aluminum cans by weight will win a recycling trophy and a big pizza party for all students!
Winners will be announced on Friday, November 10th, and pizza parties will be held at the three winning schools on Friday, November 17th. All schools will be paid for the aluminum cans they collect and will be recognized for their participation.
Kids, Cans & Ca$h is an environmental education program provided by Guilford County and the City of High Point. The support of community sponsors, Republic Services of North Carolina, D H Griffin Companies, Adams Sign Service & Repair (Burlington), and Little Caesar’s Pizza (N. Main St., High Point) help to make this program possible. In the past, schools have collected more than 2 tons of cans and received almost $2,000.00 for their efforts!
All elementary schools, public and private, should register by October 13th to participate. Once registered, schools will collect aluminum beverage cans to be recycled October 16th- November 9th. Schools are encouraged to work with their PTA, local fire departments and civic groups to collect as many cans as possible.
