The Board of Commissioners appreciates your interest in Guilford County government. Members of County boards and commissions are relied upon to provide valuable insight into the needs of our community. The Commissioners believe that these boards and commissions are best served when there is a broad representation of citizens reflecting a diverse array of racial, ethnic and age groups; districts; and gender. Please review the following Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to assist in your decision to serve on a County board or commission…
What are local boards and commissions?
In addition to standing boards and commissions, the Board of Commissioners may appoint temporary committees to address specific issues that have been identified as time-sensitive and of immediate concern to the Commissioners and citizens.
Why should I serve?
Serving on a board or commission provides you with a significant and meaningful opportunity to participate in local government.
What are the qualifications?
Any citizen of Guilford County is eligible to serve on appointed boards, commissions, committees or authorities (unless the appointment is otherwise prohibited by state statute). Certain boards and commission positions require a specific set of skills and/or training, as specified by local and/or state regulations. In these cases, the Board of Commissioners must appoint persons who meet these guidelines.
