Disasters can strike at any point and leave your agency vulnerable to disruptions in operations and the normal working environment.  As an agency that is charged with providing essential services to citizens in Guilford County, would you be able to continue providing those services if a disruption was experienced?  Completing a Continuity of Operations Plan can help your agency prepare for these unexpected disruptions and allow your agency to return to operations in a timely manner.

Continuity of Operations Planning is an essential part of emergency planning.  The purpose of a Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) is to provide a way for organizations to ensure that they are able to continue providing essential functions in the event of a variety of different emergencies that could interrupt the normal operating environment.

Guilford County Emergency Management (GCEM), through Federal MMRS funding, has created a COOP Template using material from FEMA and several different counties nationwide.  This template can be used by participating agencies to help create a COOP for their agency by collecting and filling in the necessary information in the template.  It is GCEM’s hope that by creating the template and providing it to participating agencies, the creation of a COOP will be simple and straightforward.
